In January 2000, a representative from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., called Gateway to tell us about an interesting Website that features some projects completed by grade school students with the help of their teachers.
This sophisticated Website (www.gallaudet.edu/~pcnmpce/ gatewayboxes/index.html) features the wonderful creations that the deaf students at the University's Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) made with the boxes in which their Gateway" computers are shipped.
We took one look at the Website and realized we had found kindred spirits in the kids at KDES. Like them, we look at the Gateway box and see something much bigger…much more exciting and interesting. To us, "the box" is just the door to a world that's filled with opportunities and possibilities. And to us, there was no better way to illustrate Gateway's incredible journey "beyond the box," than through the kids at KDES. We hope you enjoy the trip.
