Solo 9300
Battery Life Report

Gateway Solo 9300
BatteryMark Battery Tests

July 99
  1. IntroductionThis document presents the results of testing the battery charge times and Ziff-Davis’ BatteryMark battery life benchmark on Gateway’s Solo 9300. The focus of the tests is to collect data measuring the power-off charge time and usable battery life for each model, and to verify that the units provided consistent results. This report consists of four sections. The Test Summary section presents the overall results along with general conclusions or comments. The Configurations/Settings section details the test bed setup along with any specific parameter setting that impacted the testing. The Test Results section documents each test run and their corresponding results or data values. The Problems, Issues, Observations or Concern section details any defects or problem behaviors in the product under test along with general observations while conducting the tests.

  2. Test SummaryOverall, the Solo 9300 met all expectations put forth by. All units met the expected battery life measurements. The BatteryMark battery life test results were very consistent throughout the spectrum of the configurations tested.

  3. Configurations / SettingsThe batteries were charged and discharged in the same orderly fashion for each phase of the tests. For the ‘Conditioning Phase’ of each BatteryMark test, the Solo 9300 was configured for Maximum Power consumption/performance, and all power-saving features such as video, disk, audio standby/suspend modes were disabled (no suspend), Power Management under Control Panel set to ‘Always On’ disabling all power management in Windows 98, and other features such as cooling fans were set to ‘performance’ mode. The following CMOS settings were used for each battery.

Each battery went through at least two ‘conditioning’ runs (configured for maximum power consumption), followed by a series of ‘life test’ runs (with the unit configured for typical user settings).
During all conditioning and life tests, a Ziff-Davis ‘Z-Digit II’ was used to continually press the space bar on the unit under test, thereby keeping the units from entering ‘Suspend/Standby’ mode during the measurement period.

  4. Test ResultsThe following tables contain the configuration of the Solo 9300 and ‘life test’ results for 12 cells only and 12 and 9 cells.
