Recycle or Donate Your Old PC
The Gateway Recycle Program awards you up to $50 in rebates when you purchase a new Gateway® PC and recycle or donate your old PC. This program is designed to benefit you, protect the environment and help bridge the digital divide by making technology affordable for everyone. Get $50!
Does every PC qualify for the Recycle Program?
Some computers, particularly those manufactured before the early 1990s, will not qualify for Gateway's Recycle Program.

Why should I donate or recycle my old PC?
Studies indicate that as many as 70% of obsolete computers are collecting dust in closets and basements. Some can be re-used, but most eventually must be disposed of. Dumping them in landfills is not the answer.

Hazardous materials, like the lead inside your monitor's cathode ray tube, make PC landfill disposal environmentally unsafe. However, practically all the components of a PC can be recycled, including the plastic, glass and metals.

Gateway is committed to working with charitable organizations and recycling companies to make recycling a common practice for our customers. If you are unable to donate your PC to the charity of your choice, we recommend recycling.

How does the program work?
If you are donating your computer, you choose the charity. If you are recycling, contact a recycling center. In both cases, contact the intended recipient first to make sure they will accept your PC.

To qualify for the Gateway recycling benefit rebate, make sure you tell your sales representative your intentions when you purchase your new Gateway® PC. We will send you a Recycling/Donation confirmation form along with a post-paid, self-addressed envelope. To receive your rebate check, fill out the form and return it to Gateway with a receipt from the donation or recycling center.

Rebate totals are $50 for portables and all-in-one PCs, $25 for a desktop unit, and $25 for a desktop display monitor. Rebate totals per form can not exceed $50 and only one rebate is allowed per new PC purchased.

What information is necessary on the Recycling/Donation confirmation form?
You must include the name, address and phone number of your recycling or donation center, the type of PC and display monitor, and the serial number of each one. Make sure to sign and date the form and include a receipt from the recycling or donation center.

Make sure that you have both the serial number of the PC desktop unit and of the monitor display. If the PC you are donating or recycling is a portable or all-in-one PC, you'll need just one serial number. We suggest you save the serial numbers and keep a copy of the form for your records.

Please allow six to eight weeks to receive your rebate check.

When can I recycle my old PC?
You have 60 days from the invoice date of your new Gateway PC purchase to donate or recycle your old PC and send in your confirmation form.

If you have purchased a Gateway PC within the last 30 days but did not obtain a confirmation form, you can still donate or recycle, but you have to call Gateway at 888-888-0185 for a confirmation form. Gateway will not accept incomplete forms.

Where should I go to donate or recycle my old PC?
Gateway strongly recommends the donation programs at Goodwill and the Salvation Army. However, because of the sheer volume of donated PCs these organizations receive, we suggest calling first to make sure they are accepting PCs in your area.

You can also call local Chambers of Commerce, schools and churches to find out if they are accepting PCs as charitable contributions. Your Chamber of Commerce is also likely to have a list of state and local recycling programs.

Check these Web sites for more recycling and donation options:
PEP (Parents, Educators & Publishers) has a database of recyclers and donation programs throughout the United States.

The International Association of Electronics Recyclers (IAER) has a search engine for recycler companies and locations.

The National Recycling Coalition has an Electronics Recycling Initiative that includes a list of state and local collection programs, as well as a list of some donation sites.

The National Safety Council also has a list of recyclers categorized by states.
