Q: How do I check to see if my sound card is full duplex?
A: Do the following to see if your sound card is full duplex:

On your screen, locate and click the Start button. From the Start menu, point to Programs, Accessories, Multimedia, and then click Sound Recorder.

Drag this window with Sound Recorder to the top of your screen.

Follow steps 1 and 2 again to open a second copy of the Sound Recorder.

In the first Sound recorder window Click File and Open to open a .wav file on one of the Sound Recorder programs you should be able to find a .wav file in the Windows\media folder.

To open the The Microsoft Sound.wav file for this test, Click File, then Open while in Sound recorder.

In the "look in" box, click the down arrow and double-click the C: drive.

Double-click the Windows folder, then double-click the Media folder.

Double-click the The Microsoft Sound.wav file.

click the Record button on the other Sound Recorder program.

Press Play on the first. If it records onto the second and you can play it back, it's full duplex.
- If you get an error, the card is not full duplex or it doesn't have the latest drivers installed to allow it to become full duplex. Most Ensoniq and Creative labs sound cards are capable of full duplex function.
