Q: How do I create a McAfee Emergency Disk?
A: Please follow these instructions to make the emergency disk:
NOTE: If you believe your computer may be infected, please do this from a clean computer.

On your screen, locate and click the Start button. From the Start menu, point to Programs, then click MS-Dos Prompt.

Insert a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive.
- From a command prompt, type Format A:\ /S, then press ENTER. Press Y to confirm that you wish to do this. After it has completed the format press ENTER when it asks for a Volume Label.

From a command prompt, type in the following command then press ENTER after each line:
- Copy C:\Progra~1\Mcafee~1\Scan.exe A:\
- Copy C:\Progra~1\Mcafee~1\Scan.dat A:\
- Copy C:\Progra~1\Mcafee~1\Clean.dat A:\
- Copy C:\Progra~1\Mcafee~1\Names.dat A:\
- A:\
- Edit Autoexec.bat

In the Edit window, type A:\Scan.exe /ADL /ALL /CLEAN /REPORT C:\VIRUSES.TXT.

In the Edit window, from the File menu, click Exit. Click Yes to save the changes.

From the command prompt, type Exit, then press ENTER.
- Remove the floppy disk from the drive. Move the write protect tab to prevent the disk from becoming infected.
If your computer ever does become infected with a virus, you can restart the computer with this disk in the floppy drive and it will scan and remove all of the viruses it detects from your hard drives. It will also create a file on the C:\ drive called viruses.txt that will contain the results of the scan.
