ALR Rack-mountable Revolution Quad6

System Board (PCB# 9940)

RAM Expansion Chart

Installation Procedure

You must install two SIMMs of the same size and type with a speed of 60-ns in each occupied row.

Depending on the model, the Revolution Quad6 comes standard with 32-MB or 64-MB RAM. System memory is upgradable to 2-GB of Error Checking and Correcting (ECC) memory.

Memory Subsystem Architecture

The Revolution Quad6 memory subsystem architecture supports three types of configuration:

  • 4:1 interleaved consists of four or eight rows
  • 2:1 interleaved consists of two or six rows
  • 1:1 interleaved consists of one row

An interleave in this system requires a minimum of two 36-bit SIMMs (1 row/72-bit wide) containing a total of 64 data bits plus 8 bits of ECC RAM. To ensure optimum performance, observe the following rules when installing memory.

IMPORTANT! For optimum performance, select a 4:1 interleaved type whenever possible.

  1. Install SIMMs one row at a time and in successive order, starting with row 1. (A row consists of two memory slots.)
  2. Use only identical type and size SIMMs with a speed of 60-ns or faster.

Installing Memory

  1. Open the system as described in the Rack-mountable Revolution Quad6 User's Guide.
  2. Remove the two brackets securing the memory card to the chassis as shown below. Save both brackets and screws.
  3. Gently pull out the memory module from the system board and lay it (top side up) on a static-free surface.
  4. Angle the SIMM about 45 degrees as you insert it into the socket as shown below.
  5. Push the SIMM into the socket until it is firmly seated.
  6. Tilt up the SIMM to a vertical position until the spring-loaded latches lock the SIMM into place.
  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 to install additional SIMMs.
  8. Reinstall the memory module, making sure it seats firmly into the system board memory slot. Secure the module with the brackets and screws you removed in step 2.
  9. Close the system and power it up.
  10. Run the EISA Configuration Utility Program supplied with your system. Refer to the EISA Configuration Utility Guide for more information.
