Installing Memory

The Revolution 2X comes standard with 16-MB of memory. The system is upgradeable to 512-MB using 4 DIMM sockets. When adding RAM to your system, use only ALR-approved DIMMs.

Installing RAM DIMM units

  1. Open the system as described on page 4-1 in the User's Guide.
  2. Remove the rear drive bay as described on page 4-30 in the User's Guide.
  3. To remove existing DIMM modules, open retaining brackets at both ends of the memory slot.
  4. Insert the DIMM vertically into the socket as shown in the figure below.

Note: The DIMM modules are keyed to align with the DIMM socket.

  1. Push the DIMM module into the socket until the card is firmly seated.
  2. Close the retaining latches to lock the card into place.
  3. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to install the remaining DIMMs.
  4. Reinstall the memory module, making certain it seats firmly into the system board memory slot.
  5. Close the system as described on page 4-3 in the User's Guide and power it up.

Because the system detects more memory than the BIOS knows about, an invalid configuration message will be displayed.

  1. Enter the BIOS Setup program by pressing <F2> before the system boots.
  2. Press <Esc>, then select Save Values and Exit.
  3. Run ECU to correctly configure your system. For more information regarding the BIOS Setup program, refer to Chapter 3 in the User's Guide.

Changing Jumper Settings

IMPORTANT! Changing the CPU speed requires changing the jumper settings as well. Refer to the following figure and table for jumper location and the appropriate jumper settings.

CPU CPU Speed Setting CPU Select
Speed JP37 JP36 JP6 JP11
Pentium Pro 200 MHz 3-4 3-4 2-3 2-3
Pentium II 233 MHz 3-4 1-2,3-4 1-2 1-2
Pentium II 266 MHz 3-4 5-6 1-2 1-2
Pentium II 300 MHz 3-4 1-2,5-6 1-2 1-2
