DIMM Memory Board

Installation Procedure

You must install two SIMMs of the same size and type with a speed of 60-ns in each occupied row. The Revolution 6x6 comes standard with 128-MB of ECC memory installed on the SIMM card. System memory is expandable to 2-GB on SIMM card and up to 4-GB on optional DIMM card.

MEMORY SUBSYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

The Revolution Quad6 memory subsystem architecture supports three types of configurations:

  • 4:1 interleaved consists of four or eight rows
  • 2:1 interleaved consists of two or six rows
  • 1:1 interleaved consists of one row

An interleave in this system requires a minimum of two 36-bit SIMMs (1 row/72-bit wide) containing a total of 64 data bits plus 8 bits of ECC RAM. To ensure optimum performance, follow the procedures below when installing memory.

IMPORTANT! For optimum performance, select a 4:1 interleaved type whenever possible.

  1. Install SIMMs one row at a time and in successive order, starting with row 1. (A row consists of two memory slots.)
  2. Use only identical type and size SIMMs with a speed of 60-ns or faster.

INSTALLING MEMORY

NOTE: If you are unsure of the location of the system memory slot, refer to Users Guide for the illustration of the system board.

  1. Open the system as described in the Users Guide.
  2. Remove the card retaining bracket securing the memory card to the chassis. Save both bracket and screws.
  3. Gently pull out the memory card from the system board and lay it (top side up) on a static-free surface.
  4. Angle the memory module about 45 degrees and insert it into the socket as shown below.
  5. Push the memory module into the socket until it is firmly seated.
  6. Tilt up the memory module to a vertical position until the spring-loaded latches locks it into place.
  7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 to install additional memory modules.
  8. Reinstall the memory card, making sure it seats firmly into the system board memory slot.
  9. Secure the memory card with the bracket and screws you removed in step 2.
  10. Close the system and power it up.
