When and why it is necessary to install these video drivers
Cause
Windows 95 and Windows 98 may detect and load drivers improperly when automatically configuring this card through Plug and Play technology.
EffectYou may notice the following effects:
-
The on-screen display (OSD) does not have all the color it should.
-
The OSD does not run at a resolution as high as it should.
-
Software programs that are compatible with the video card function improperly or do not run at all.
-
The display adapter, or video card, in the Windows Device Manager is reported incorrectly.
How to locate the Device Manager
-
On your screen, locate and click the Start button.
-
From the Start menu, point to Settings. Click Control Panel.
-
In the Control Panel window, double-click the System icon.
-
In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.
Circumstances
Improper detection occurs when...
-
Windows 95 or Windows 98 is installed on an empty (new or repartitioned and formatted) hard disk drive.
-
Windows 95 or Windows 98 has been removed and reinstalled.
-
The proper driver software or driver information has been removed completely from the computer.
If a computer does not have the quality display of which it is capable or software programs compatible with the video card do not run properly, following these directions may not enable the video display if this is the result of....
-
A reinstallation of Windows 95 or Windows 98 (without deleting it first).
-
Another program installed conflicting drivers with Windows or the video card.
-
Removal or corruption of necessary Windows files, video drivers, or video card information files.
A number of circumstances do exist in which reinstalling the video drivers does not resolve the issue. Further troubleshooting is necessary before some issues are resolved. Reinstalling the correct video drivers do not make things worse if the video display is not working properly. Although, doing so may not help either.
