I just received one of the new Gateway Select computers with the AMD-K6 processor. I'm trying to install a modem, but it doesn't seem to fit in any of the slots on the motherboard. How can I install the modem?

I have a U.S. Robotics 56K Voice WinModem (Gateway part number 6000758). My online service provider has stated that since my UART chip is only 8250, I will not be able to connect at optimal speeds, and that I should contact Gateway for a fix. What is a UART chip, and how can I resolve this?
