ISSUE: When trying to access the modem on computer connected to an HP Scanjet 5100Cse scanner, one of the following errors may occur. "Port already open", "Open Com", or "Connect error: unable to open com2, your computer's modem is probably in use by another program." If the scanner cable is not connected to the computer, the errors do not occur.

PRODUCTS AFFECTED:

RESOLUTION: Check to make sure the modem is not using Interrupt Request (IRQ) 5. If it is, manually assign it to IRQ 3 or 10, whichever is available. If neither of these IRQ's are available, the scanner cable can be disconnected when using the modem.
