

How to Install Mpact Mediaware®
For DVD drives and DVD controllers in Gateway G and GP series PCs
Note: These instructions are for installing Mpact Mediaware software for Gateway DVD drives in Windows 95 and Windows 98 ONLY (see part number list of supported DVD drives). Note that Mpact Mediaware will only enable DVD drives to function in Gateway PCs that include DVD controller hardware and meet its minimum system requirements (as described in the Complete DVD Software Installation Reference). Mpact Mediaware software is found on "Mpact Mediaware" CDs and is included on Gateway Restoration CDs version 5.4 and later.
In addition to installing Mpact Mediaware software, information and installation procedures for DVD "patch software" (specifically, the M1 and M2 patch and the STB Video Port Manager) are below...

Procedure:
Before installing Mpact Mediaware...

Using a Gateway Restoration CD version 5.4 or later...
- Insert the Restoration CD in the drive (CD-ROM or DVD) and the Gateway System Restoration CD window will automatically appear. *
* If nothing automatically appears "AutoPlay" has been disabled within Windows on the system. Double clicking My Computer, right clicking the CD-ROM drive icon, and clicking "AutoPlay" from the menu will proceed with the next step.

Click the Hardware Drivers tab at the top, then click the Mpact DVD button. *
Using an "Mpact Mediaware" CD...
- Insert the CD in the drive (CD-ROM or DVD) and the Gateway System Restoration CD window will automatically appear. *
* If nothing automatically appears "AutoPlay" has been disabled within Windows on the system. Double clicking My Computer, right clicking the CD-ROM or DVD drive icon, and clicking "AutoPlay" from the menu will proceed with the next step.

Click Next on the "Welcome" window.

Click Yes to accept the "Liscense Agreement".

Click Next to accept the highlighted "Program Folders"

If prompted, select the appropriate DVD region (the region in which the system and DVD drive are to be used)

Click Next to install the "Selected Components".

The Mpact Mediaware files are copied now.

When finished, the system must restart to complete the installation. Click to specify Yes, then click Finish, to restart the system.

Upon restarting, Windows should detect "New Hardware", and automatically install the software for it (Video Driver for Mpact). Click to choose Yes to restart, when prompted.

Once restarted and the Windows Desktop shows, click Start | Programs | Digital Versitile Disc (DVD) | DVD Player to launch the Mpact Mediaware "Entertainment center" and view DVD titles.

DVD Patch Software Information...
M1 Patch - Installation Instructions
The M1 patch is for Chromatics DVD controller cards (part numbers 6000574 and 6000658). When installed, this will allow some DVD tiles to play (that otherwise will not due to "anti-copy code" issues).
Download the M1 patch (file name 4104dvd.exe, 4.9 MB).
M2 Patch - Installation Instructions
The M2 patch is for DVD controllers integrated on STB 4MB AGP video cards (part numbers 6000709 and 6000761) and Anigma Pentium II motherboards (part number 4000274) ONLY. When installed, this will allow some DVD tiles to play (that otherwise will not due to "anti-copy code" issues).
Download the M2 patch (file name 4105dvd.exe, 808 KB).
STB Video Port Manager - Installation Instructions
The STB Video Port Manager resolves "choppy video" issues when playing DVD titles with a system that has an STB Nitro 3D (S3 Virge GX) video card (part numbers 6000564, 6000565, 6000633, and 6000634).
