Catching Up with Kokomo #1
Sam Cox brought someone to class in Kokomo, Ind. the other day: a helmeted, grimy-faced soldier from World War II.
The junior from Northwestern High School transported this ghostly messenger out of the past and into his history class with the help of his wireless laptop.
In Kokomo, Sam's class is studying distant shores and distant times with the most immediate technology available.
The Internet gives students at his school the power to research historical events faster and more thoroughly than ever before. And when Sam displays his results on a cordless, flat-screened device that brings pictures to life - the effect is magical.

Catching Up with Kokomo #2
Any good executive knows the secret to getting work done lies in one word: delegate.
It's no different at Northwestern High School in Kokomo, Ind., where Principal Harold Seamon has both a Director of Curriculum Technology and a Network Engineer to serve the technology needs of 580 students, 42 staff and numerous support personnel.
Although he got the ball rolling, Seamon was delighted to hand over technology-related questions to Scott Simmons, Director of Curriculum Technology.
"Wireless technology is used daily," said Simmons, "it brings technology wherever students want to learn."
At Northwestern High, Seamon runs a tight ship. The environment is competitive and curriculum choices are broad, including a range of science, math, and an award-winning arts program. More than 72 percent of graduating seniors have been accepted at four-year colleges in recent years, and another nine percent enroll in two-year or technical colleges.
The school has several championship sports teams, and students have finished in the top ten of the State Crop Judging Contest each year.
